Bonfire night is nearly upon us and as usual this year we expect to see a vast array of fireworks, local bonfires and sparklers in force. Selecta recognise that bonfire night is often characterised by friends getting together around the bonfire and is very much a social occasion. The amount of wood that is required to sustain a fire is dependant upon how big you want the fire and how long you would like the fire to continue. Some of the bonfires that you see on television would require three quarters of a forest to maintain but a fire that big is too hot to get close to and imposes quite a threat to the safety of yourself and your guests.
Selecta suggests safely using old unwanted furniture along with wood for your bonfire base but state that at no point whatsoever should toxic materials be placed on a bonfire such as plastics, tyres, paint or foam. The environment agency that is in charge of air quality believe that the toxic smoke that these materials elicit pollutes the environment and could even choke people nearby. Selecta have observed that many people who purchase composite doors during late october and early november speak of how they will be using their old wooden doors as fuel for their bonfire! It is unlikely that people choose to replace their existing door for a composite door simply for bonfire fuel however the concept is amusing. The installation of composite doors to houses is a trend that has been growing all year. With its pristine finish and modern look and feel it is swiftly becoming a favourite amongst home owners. Selecta also point out that composite doors are amongst the safest around and offer great security keeping home owners safe from Guy Fawkes and the like.
