Police in the North West are reminding local residents to ensure their external doors and windows are totally secure, following a number of break ins.
Greater Manchester police have warned there have been quite a few incidents in Salford, where thieves have broken in to homes and businesses due to insecure exterior doors.
Crime reduction advisor for Salford Division Glyn Wood explained that a third of break-ins which take place are the result of insecurities in the home, but there are a few simple steps people can take to ensure they do not fall victim to this.
"Please ensure that all doors and windows are kept secure, even if you are staying inside. If you are going out, use a timer light so it gives the impression that someone is home."
