Selecta have successfully achieved British Standard BS.EN.ISO14001: 2004 Environmental Management Systems, following the two day visit on 26th and 27th October 2010 by BSI.
The assessment assessed not only the preparedness of the documented system, but also on how this was being implemented within the business. During the visit a BSI Environmental Specialist assessed Selecta on the legal compliance of all the relevant Environmental Legislation.
Certification to ISO 14001 means that Selecta has identified aspects of the business that have an impact on the environment and prioritises environmental improvements while ensuring all UK environmental legislation is still being met. All in all, this means Selecta has positively demonstrated that there are sufficient control measures in place to prevent or reduce the likelihood of pollution to land, air or water.
BSI were particularly complimentary and impressed with the achievement of zero waste to landfill and the level of awareness and professionalism amongst employees to achieve such a bold target. The management and minimisation of waste has proven to be a major success during implementation.
Quality, Environmental and Health & Safety Co-ordinator, Mark Walker comments “This is a great achievement only made possible by the support and commitment of all staff. Certification demonstrates that Selecta Systems Ltd takes its responsibilities to the environment seriously. In addition to the obvious environmental benefits, an increasing number of clients prefer to deal with ISO 14001 certified companies so our business position will be enhanced. Finally, we expect to make cost savings as a result of energy saving, increased recycling, reduced landfill costs and a variety of other innovative sources. The challenge now is to build on this position for all our futures”.
